This summer, women everywhere are swapping the rosé for something that actually supports their system: THC-infused drinks and CBD-forward routines that work with their bodies—not against them.
To celebrate, we teamed up with Lisa Hurwitz, the pioneering founder of Happi and friend of EQ CEO & Co-founder Coco Meers , to talk about stress, alcohol-free joy, and why low-dose THC is becoming the go-to for conscious relaxation.
Because true wellness isn’t about numbing out—it’s about tuning in.
What inspired you to start Happi? Tell us about its origins.
As a working mom, I was struggling to find joy and balance after too many years burning that proverbial candle at both ends. Leaning on Ambien and alcohol to make it through my stress, I began seeking more natural, plant-based remedies and found cannabis. But, I didn’t want to smoke and was surprised at the lack of accessible formats and options specifically for women. That’s when the idea for Happi was born. I knew that if cannabis could help me, it could help other women.
THC-infused beverages are popping up everywhere. What makes Happi unique?
When we started Happi, we began with our brand purpose: To Inspire Occasions of Happiness. And as a result, we felt it was important to formulate beverages to fit those different occasions, which is what makes Happi stand out. Designed by women for women, it’s one of the few infused seltzer brands with ingredients chosen for their specific benefits to meet specific needs. Whether you’re seeking better sleep, stress relief, relaxation, or a mood boost for your get-togethers, there’s a Happi for you. And because our ingredients are all natural, low calorie, vegan, and have no refined sugar, you can indulge guilt-free.
How do you see women redefining relaxation this summer—with cannabis in the mix?
Relaxation is the number one reason our consumers drink Happi. Glow is formulated for calm specifically and is our number one best-seller. There are many summer occasions that call for relaxation from a day at the pool to a group of friends sitting around the firepit. We see hangouts becoming smaller and more intimate with THC beverages. Happi makes a great plus one at these types of get-togethers. So a “party” to us can even mean a party of one. We understand that many people are still new to THC and may not feel comfortable drinking it in a large social setting. Most of our customers drink Happi for relaxation and to help them unwind. So those get-togethers with close friends and family are perfect for toasting with a Happi in hand.
What other trends do you see as it relates to women and alcohol reduction?
With the recent announcement from the Surgeon General that alcohol should come with a cancer warning label, women are looking to cut back. But we know that many will still want to have that glass of wine. We’ve found that many people are swapping their weekday glass of wine with Happi. And then celebrating with alcohol on the weekend. Happi is a great way to unwind at the end of a long day without the extra calories and it doesn’t disrupt your sleep. It is also great for skin and overall health in ways that alcohol is not. We call this concept a Happi Medium: finding a balance between Happi and alcohol.
For someone new to Happi, where should they start?
Our best selling flavors are Glow in Blood Orange Ginger, Raspberry Honeysuckle and the Mango Sweet Basil, which we named Happi Dance. So definitely choose the flavor you love most. We offer a range of doses from 2.5mg-10mg per can and 5mg is the sweet spot for most of our Happi drinkers as they like to have 1-2 over the course of an evening. It is best to start low and go slow as we like to say. Assess how you’re feeling, then drink more if you want a stronger buzz. The nice thing about cannabis beverages is that you are in control of your experience and just how Happi you’d like to feel.
What are your plans for the long weekend?
I took up surfing in my 40s and it’s a passion of mine. The feeling of joy and freedom I get from the water, the waves, the salty air just cures everything. I hope to catch some waves with my family and then unwind with a Glow. It’s my favorite weekend ritual: sitting outside with my husband and my sons, watching the waves roll in, and sharing stories about our day with a Happi in hand. I also hope to catch up on my sleep. My ideal bedtime routine is a Happi Nightcap and then your EQ Nightly Sleep Gummies for sweet dreams.
